It looks like there is some chance that the Saudi blogger Raif Badawi may be put to death as punishment for apostasy rather than suffering 1000 lashes.
If your religion requires people be put to death for apostasy or renouncing their religion then it is not a worthy religion. And given the recent death of Avijit Roy in Bangladesh, sometimes it the state meting out the justice and sometimes it's vigilantes.
When your religion becomes a tool to enforce hatred, it's time for the religion (or the government's definition of the religion) to change.
Note: this isn't new. Religion has been used as a tool of hatred since religion first began. And most religions have been guilty of it at some point. This sort of behaviour doesn't belong in modern society.
