I know of the history of Diego Garcia from when I was living in London and at the time thought that the treatment of the Chagossians was pretty awful. I didn't really think about that when I picked up the Macaroni.io domain but this article on GigaOm today reminded me of it.
I think that times have changed since the colonial era and the Cold War. Removing locals from their island might've seemed acceptable to some military bureaucrats in the 1960's but it wasn't. To me it seems like a shameful part of Britain's history and it is compounded by a failure to make it right to this day.
It might be interesting to see what happens with the 50-year lease on Diego Garcia expiring in 2016 (and up for renewal this year), although with the never-ending War on Terror still never-ending, I would expect the lease to be renewed.
I'm a little conflicted about what to do about this domain now.
